Designer's biography

Janey has been designing gardens since 1993, having trained at Writtle and The University of Cambridge Botanic Gardens. Years of working as a hands-on gardener have given Janey the detailed plant knowledge she values so greatly.

On-going design commissions as diverse as the gardens of a Moscow Summer House and the landscape to a newly built Suffolk Hall House form part of Janeys portfolio of work. Collaboration with architectural practices has lead to the creation of landscape concepts, which seamlessly link interiors with the wider outdoors.

As co-presenter of ITV1’s ‘Britain’s Best Back Gardens’, she filmed 2 series of programmes, visiting 125 private gardens throughout the UK to discuss their design – or lack of it!

2014 sees Janey returning to RHS Chelsea, after the success of the Global Stone Bee Friendly Plants Garden, which won Silver in 2010. The Himalayan Rock Garden – designed in conjunction with James Soane and Project Orange Architects - celebrates both exotic and familiar plants that have travelled far, in an inspiring and contemporary setting.

Based in Lavenham, Suffolk, Janey wrestles with her own 5 acre wooded wildlife garden, a ‘work in progress’.
